Открытость движка позволяет всем желающим дорабатывать его и переделывать под свои нужды. Чем и воспользовались разработчики данной программы.

Если скачать Brave впервые, то сложно понять, чем же браузер отличается от прочих. Привычный интерфейс, привычные возможности – в интерфейсе больших отличий нет. Да они и не нужны, ведь по сути разработчики нашли тот идеал оформления, который устраивает всех.

Блокировка рекламных трекеров

Но настоящая особенность программы – это ее подход к рекламе и отслеживании пользовательских данных трекерами. Трекеры – это специальные технологии, которые позволяют связывать действия одного и того же пользователя на различных сайтах, давая рекламщикам общую картину интересов человека. Таким образом собирается некое досье, исходя из которого легко решить, что именно заинтересует человека, и какой товар ему предложить в рекламном баннере.

На первый взгляд ничего плохого тут нет – однако, далеко не все согласны со сбором подобной информации о себе. К таким людям относятся и разработчики браузера Brave, которые встроили в него функцию блокирования таких трекеров. Теперь они не смогут понимать, какой именно пользователь пришел на конкретный сайт, и на каких сайтах он был до этого – идентификатор не будет отправляться браузером. Таким образом, информация станет по-настоящему обезличенной.

Вознаграждения Brave

Однако, следует понимать, что рекламный заработок является основным для большинства сайтов в интернете. Именно доход с рекламы позволяет владельцам сайтов делать свою работу и предоставлять пользователям нужную им информацию. Подобная система позволяет пользователю саму выбирать, какую рекламу смотреть, получая за это деньги напрямую. Также люди могут прямо поддерживать полезные для них сайты. На первый взгляд система просто и прозрачна, а главное – справедлива, но в любом случае, если она станет глобальной, ситуацию контролировать будет лишь одна компания – та, что владеет Brave. Termination

Brave may terminate your access to all or any part of the Service at any time if you fail to comply with these Terms of Use, which may result in the forfeiture and destruction of all information associated with your account. Further, either party may terminate the Services for any reason and at any time upon written notice. If you wish to terminate your account, you may do so by following the instructions on the Service. Any fees paid hereunder are non-refundable. Upon any termination, all rights and licenses granted to you in this Agreement shall immediately terminate, but all provisions hereof which by their nature should survive termination shall survive termination, including, without limitation, warranty disclaimers, indemnity and limitations of liability.

Brave Together

Brave Together is a private video conference tool that you can use to call with your friends and colleagues. Nothing that you say or type in the service is logged or saved. . 

Note: Your IP address is available to your Internet provider. If your Internet provider requires the use of a TURN server, then your IP address will also be available to a company called 8×8, which operates the TURN server. The content of your call is encrypted between your browser and the Brave server, so your audio and video stay private from intermediaries.

Brave Rewards

If you switch on Brave Rewards you are assigned a “wallet” identifier by Uphold, our payments partner. We record this identifier on servers operated by Amazon and Heroku (a Salesforce company) in the United States. These services are operated in the United States, and are certified under the EU-US Privacy Shield agreement, which provides safeguards intended to be equivalent to those provided in the EU.

Brave uses your wallet identifier to determine when to send you a monthly gift of attention tokens (BAT). You can disable this in Preferences or Settings.

Each time Brave sends users a monthly gift of BAT it makes a record of their IP addresses that can be analysed to safeguard against fraud. Brave checks to see whether we are currently offering tokens to Brave users. This request includes the identifier of your unique Rewards wallet. .

Even with Brave Rewards enabled, we never collect your browsing history or similar information, and we can’t derive this information from your contributions to content creators and sites. Instead, we aggregate contributions among all Brave users, and we cannot trace contributions to individual users, or link any of your contributions together.

If you verify ownership of your Brave Rewards wallet with Uphold, direct contributions you make will be processed by Uphold as part of your Uphold account. When you make a direct contribution, Brave sends all the details of that transaction to Uphold so that they can execute the transaction. This is subject to Uphold’s privacy policy.

How we improve Brave

Crash reports

When Brave crashes, it creates a report that can be sent to us to help us fix whatever caused the problem. This report contains technical information about your computer system which is typically distinctive. We use a service called Backtrace.io to store them. You can choose whether to send us these reports. Even if you have chosen to send reports in the past, you can turn off future reports in settings.

Privacy Preserving Product Analytics

The Browser sends us anonymous reports to alert us to product problems and necessary improvements. None of the information it reports harms your privacy. The report only describes general use of the Browser, such as a general range of how many extensions are installed, a general range of how many tabs are open, and whether features like Shields, Rewards, and Ads are switched on. See the full list of questions here. These reports are stripped of metadata, and aggregated with measurements reported by many other instances of Brave. The data are not personal, and cannot be combined to identify you. You can deactivate Privacy-Preserving Product Analytics in Settings.

Nightly, Dev, and Beta browser versions

Nightly, Dev, and Beta versions of the Brave Browser are experimental previews of new Brave Browser versions. They allow us to test new features so that we can find and fix errors before releasing a new version of the Brave Browser. These test versions of the Browser may automatically send crash reports to Brave so that we can identify and fix problems. A crash report can contain personal information.

How to switch this feature off.You can switch off “Automatically send usage statistics and crash reports to Brave Software” in settings.

Privacy-Preserving Bandits

Contextual bandit algorithms (CBAs) often rely on personal data to provide recommendations. This means that potentially sensitive data from past interactions are utilized to provide personalization to end-users. Using a local agent on the user’s device protects the user’s privacy, by keeping the data locally, however, the agent requires longer to produce useful recommendations, as it does not leverage feedback from other users. This paper proposes a technique we call Privacy-Preserving Bandits (P2B), a system that updates local agents by collecting feedback from other agents in a differentially-private manner. Comparisons of our proposed approach with a non-private, as well as a fully-private (local) system, show competitive performance on both synthetic benchmarks and real-world data. Specifically, we observed a decrease of 2.6% and 3.6% in multi-label classification accuracy, and a CTR increase of 0.0025 in online advertising for a privacy budget ε≈ 0.693. These results suggest P2B is an effective approach to problems arising in on-device privacy-preserving personalization.

Но ведь сам факт того, что браузер может определить сайт, сформировать реферальную ссылку под каждого пользователя, а затем отправить эти данные на сервера своих создателей для идентификации, уже вызывает настороженность. В конце концов, я бы очень не хотел, чтобы браузер, на который я возлагаю задачу по обеспечению своей конфиденциальности, мог вести подобную деятельность в тайне от меня самого. И уж тем более, когда речь заходит о таком щепетильном деле, как торговля криптовалютой.

De-Kodi: Understanding the Kodi Ecosystem

Abstract: Free and open source media centers are currently experiencing a boom in popularity for the convenience and flexibility they offer users seeking to remotely consume digital content. This newfound fame is matched by increasing notoriety–for their potential to serve as hubs for illegal content–and a presumably ever-increasing network footprint. It is fair to say that a complex ecosystem has developed around Kodi, composed of millions of users, thousands of “add-ons”–Kodi extensions from 3rd-party developers—and content providers. Motivated by these observations, this paper conducts the first analysis of the Kodi ecosystem. Our approach is to build “crawling” software around Kodi which can automatically install an addon, explore its menu, and locate (video) content. This is challenging for many reasons. First, Kodi largely relies on visual information and user input which intrinsically complicates automation. Second, no central aggregators for Kodi addons exist. Third, the potential sheer size of this ecosystem requires a highly scalable crawling solution. We address these challenges with de-Kodi, a full fledged crawling system capable of discovering and crawling large cross-sections of Kodi’s decentralized ecosystem. With de-Kodi, we discovered and tested over 9,000 distinct Kodi addons. Our results demonstrate de-Kodi, which we make available to the general public, to be an essential asset in studying one of the largest multimedia platforms in the world. Our work further serves as the first ever transparent and repeatable analysis of the Kodi ecosystem at large.
